What Leicester sites typically need examined

industries in leicester
Leicester's Local Plan names five priority industries: textiles (design, manufacturing and technology), life sciences, logistics, engineering and advanced manufacturing, and space, data and digital technology. There's a particular concentration of textile businesses in and around Spinney Hills (LE5), and Space Park Leicester at Pioneer Park is the University of Leicester's hub for space and data. Most of these sites use equipment that LOLER or PUWER covers, from forklifts and dock levellers on logistics sites to overhead cranes in engineering works and passenger lifts in offices and residential blocks.
Who will ask to see your reports
Leicester City Council says it enforces health and safety law in places like shops, salons, offices and restaurants, and that other workplaces, such as factories and construction sites, are regulated by HSE. HSE's own guidance adds that local authorities cover hotels, leisure premises and care homes, while HSE covers schools, colleges, hospitals and nursing homes. Not sure which applies to your site? HSE has a short guide to choosing the right enforcing authority. Either can ask to see your thorough examination reports, so keep them current and in date order.
How it works
-
Tell us what you have. The number and type of items, where they are and when each was last examined.
-
We send a quote, usually within 24 hours. Once agreed, it's fixed for all your ongoing examinations.
-
We examine at a time to suit you, to keep disruption to your business low.
-
You get a written report for every item, stating whether it's safe to keep using, listing any defects with a date to put each one right, and giving the next examination due date. We contact you before each one falls due. See what one looks like on our sample report page.
Independent of whoever maintains your equipment
The registered provider or manager holds the responsibility to fix these issues, as the employer of the staff who operate the equipment. That duty doesn't transfer to whoever services or maintains the equipment, and it's a separate obligation from the servicing itself. It's also worth knowing that HSE guidance advises against the same company both maintaining and thoroughly examining the same equipment, since they'd effectively be assessing their own work. See why independent examination matters.
Every PULO examination is carried out and signed by Ryan Leavesley MSOE MBES, an engineer surveyor with over fourteen years' experience. PULO is ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 certified, CHAS Advanced accredited and an INITA member. You deal directly with the engineer who examines your equipment.
