LOLER and PUWER inspections in DERBY

PULO Compliance carries out independent LOLER and PUWER thorough examinations for businesses in Derby and across Derbyshire. Derby is around 15 miles from our Nottingham base, so every examination is done and signed by one qualified engineer surveyor, with a written report for each item and a quote that stays fixed for all your ongoing work.

a quick intro

  • Lifting equipment that carries people, and lifting accessories such as slings and shackles: at least every 6 months (LOLER Regulation 9(3)(a)(i))

  • Other lifting equipment, such as goods lifts, vehicle lifts, forklifts and cranes: at least every 12 months (Regulation 9(3)(a)(ii))

  • Other work equipment under PUWER: inspected at intervals set by risk assessment (PUWER Regulation 6)

Who will ask to see your reports in Derby

Who enforces health and safety at your Derby site depends on what the premises are. Derby City Council's own guidance splits it like this:

Either can ask to see your thorough examination reports. If you run a garage with vehicle lifts, or a factory with overhead cranes, your enforcing authority is HSE. If you run a warehouse or an office block, it's the council. Keep your reports current and in date order, whoever asks. If your Derbyshire site is outside the city, your district council applies instead of Derby City Council.

Industry around Derby

Derby has a strong industrial base, with advanced manufacturing, aerospace, rail and automotive supply chains clustered around Pride Park, Infinity Park and Sinfin. Sites like these tend to have the equipment that LOLER and PUWER cover: overhead cranes and hoists, lifting tackle, forklifts and machinery. We examine equipment for engineering and manufacturing firms, warehouses, garages, managing agents and care homes, from a single item to a whole site.

How it works

  1. Tell us what you have. The number and type of items, where they are and when each was last examined.

  2. We send a quote, usually within 24 hours. Once agreed, it's fixed for all your ongoing examinations.

  3. We examine at a time to suit you, to keep disruption to your business low.

  4. You get a written report for every item, stating whether it's safe to keep using, listing any defects with a date to put each one right, and giving the next examination due date. We contact you before each one falls due. See what one looks like on our sample report page.

Independent of whoever maintains your equipment

Your maintenance contractor or equipment supplier keeps your equipment running. A thorough examination is a separate legal check. HSE guidance says the examiner should be sufficiently independent and impartial, so they aren't signing off their own work. PULO doesn't maintain or repair equipment. We examine it. Read why independent examination matters.

Every PULO examination is carried out and signed by an experienced engineer, led by Ryan Leavesley MSOE MBES, an engineer surveyor with over fourteen years' experience of examining lifts in Nottingham. PULO is ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 certified, CHAS Advanced accredited and an INITA member. You deal directly with the engineer who examines your equipment.
